Handel and Haydn Society Announce $9 Million in Gifts

The Handel and Haydn Society in Boston has announced gifts totaling $9 million to a $12 million campaign that will ensure the organization's financial stability and enable it to sustain and expand its programming.

During the quiet phase of the campaign, the organization, which will celebrate its bicentennial next year, received gifts of $1 million each from an unnamed donor and honorary campaign co-chairs Karen S. Levy and Wat H. and Jane Tyler, as well as a hundred and fifty gifts from other donors and volunteers. The campaign will enable H+H to continue investing in its musicians — enhancing both the artistic caliber of the organization and the local arts community as a whole — and extend its performance footprint beyond the greater Boston area, augment its educational outreach programs and the H2 Young Professionals program, and engage in collaborations with other Boston arts organizations. The funds also will be used to expand Heartstrings, the organization’s free ticket program for underserved populations and educational program participants.

"This bicentennial season is a year of exciting activity and concerts that will showcase our many strengths," said campaign co-chair Todd Estabrook at a reception preceding the season's opening concert.
