Hoag network receives $25 million for substance use treatment facility
Hoag Hospital Foundation, the charitable arm of the Irvine, California-based Hoag Health Network, has announced a $25 million gift from members of the Martin and Pickup families to establish a comprehensive substance use treatment facility.
The gift will establish the CareMar Recovery Center, a multi-level facility on the south campus of Hoag Hospital Newport Beach. The facility will deliver wraparound services—including detox, clinical care, and treatment—for people seeking recovery and impacted families, and will include home-like residential quarters, private consultation rooms, and indoor and outdoor communal spaces.
For decades, Carole Pickup engaged in substance use recovery advocacy across Orange County, and serves as the CareMar center’s namesake. Pickup, her daughter Devon Martin and her husband, Kevin Martin, along with Carole’s son Todd Pickup and his wife Natalie Pickup contributed to the gift.
“It’s a blessing to be able to give to help others heal and live happier lives. It’s been rewarding for me to dedicate so much of my life to raising awareness and resources for people living with the challenges of addiction,” said Carole Pickup. “So many people need a safe place and compassionate experts around them to lift them up. I am grateful my family can join with Hoag to create this center for our community.”
