Houston Methodist receives $1.5 million for brain, pituitary research
Houston Methodist Hospital has announced a $1.5 million commitment from the Ben Taub and Henry J.N. Taub Foundation in support of neurological and oncological disease research and treatment.
The funds, which will be directed to the hospital’s Kenneth R. Peak Brain & Pituitary Treatment Center, will establish a chair in neurosurgical treatment and research named after the late Marcy E. Taub. In addition, the hospital is pairing the gift with an anonymous $500,000 donation, boosting total funding to $2 million. The new position will work alongside the center’s physicians and research scientists to facilitate innovative research and clinical trials for diseases including brain cancers such as glioblastomas and spine and pituitary tumors.
“Basic and clinical research allows us to offer hope by offering innovative treatment methods,” said Peak Center director David S. Baskin. “The generous contribution from the Henry J.N. Taub family allows us to expand our research efforts to help find treatment options for those living with neurological and oncological diseases.”
