Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción awarded $3 million from Yawkey
Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA) in Boston has announced a $3 million grant from the Yawkey Foundation to support the development of a Latinx arts, culture, and neighborhood community center.
The largest grant in IBA’s history will help fund construction of La CASA: The Center for Arts, Self-determination, and Activism, an open, two-story, multi-purpose space to be used for large community events and meetings. La CASA will be connected to the adjacent O’Day Playground and amphitheater. The center, serving the Boston and Greater-Boston Latinx community, will the largest of its kind in New England.
“With this grant, the Yawkey Foundation has taken a critical step towards closing the philanthropy gap of investment in Latinx serving and led nonprofit organizations,” said IBA chief executive Vanessa Calderón-Rosado. “La CASA is central to our mission of empowering and engaging individuals and families to improve their lives through high-quality affordable housing, education, and arts programs.”
