Irvine Foundation awards $31.4 million in grants

The James Irvine Foundation has announced 10 grants totaling $31.4 million in support of four initiatives focused on supporting working Californians as well as housing affordability.

Through its Better Careers initiative, the foundation awarded a two-year, $1.5 million general operating support grant to Jewish Vocational & Career Counseling Service, as well as a two-year, $1.4 million grant to San Diego Workforce Partnership, Inc. to build organizational capacity and support the SkillCraft program to advance manufacturing training pathways for Californians living on low incomes. Through its Fair Work initiative, the foundation awarded a three-year, $1.83 million grant to Center on Policy Initiatives to support low-income Black workers in San Diego through the Center on Policy Initiatives and the San Diego Black Worker Center, as well as a three-year, $2.4 million general operating support grant to the Chinese Progressive Association. Through its Just Prosperity initiative, the foundation awarded two-year, $2 million general operating support grants to the California Calls Education Fund and the Public Policy Institute of California.

The foundation’s Housing Affordability initiative also awarded a three-year, $2.5 million grant to Common Counsel Foundation to support the Fund for an Inclusive California. And through its Priority Communities initiative, the foundation awarded a two-year,$10.4 million grant to the Central Valley Community Foundation.
