Juravinski Foundation awards $3.7 million to support health research
The Ontario-based Juravinski Foundation has awarded C$5.1 million ($3.7 million) to support health research in Hamilton, Ontario, the Hamilton Spectator reports.
Announced on the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Juravinski Research Institute, a partnership between the city’s hospitals and McMaster University, the gift will support researchers at Hamilton Health Sciences, McMaster University, and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and provide support of cancer research and brain health and include elements of AI, diagnostic imaging, and biobanking. Philanthropists Charles and Margaret Juravinski awarded tens of millions of dollars in support of health care in the Hamilton region. Charles died in February 2022, and Margaret died in May 2023.
The couple were “visionary philanthropists, whose generosity has transformed how health research is conducted, as well as how health care is delivered in Hamilton,” said foundation chair Julian Dobranowski, in a news release.
