Malvern Prep receives $20 million from Howley Foundation

Malvern Preparatory School in Pennsylvania has announced a $20 million gift from the Howley Foundation in support of student scholarships.

The largest gift in the history of the independent all-boys school will provide annual scholarships to 40 students (32 in the upper school and eight in the middle school) who otherwise would not be able to receive a Malvern Prep education. In addition, a portion of the gift will be used to construct two turf fields and a student experience center, which will include team rooms, a fitness area, academic and classroom space, and offices for staff and administration.

In recognition of the contributions of Nick Howley, Jr., a longtime trustee of Malvern Prep who died in 2000, the middle school program will be named the W. Nicholas Howley, Jr. Middle School.

“We believe that the best way to create social and economic mobility and improve lives is to provide quality educational opportunities,” said Howley Foundation founder and board chair Nick Howley III. “Malvern has served our family well for multiple generations. This gift will [enable] students with limited means the opportunity to attend Malvern and participate in the strong academic and character formation that the school provides.”
