Meyer Memorial Trust Announces $3.6 Million in Grants
The Meyer Memorial Trust in Portland, Oregon, has announced grants totaling more than $3.6 million to twenty-seven nonprofit organizations in the areas of the arts and culture, housing, human services, and the social sector.
October grant recipients include the Oregon Symphony Association, which was awarded a supporting grant of $340,000 for the symphony’s 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons; the Children’s Center of Clackamas County, which will receive $150,000 to launch a major child abuse prevention campaign in urban and rural communities in Clackamas County; the Asian Health and Service Center in Portland, which was awarded $500,000 for the development of a new Asian health center as part of the Lents Town Center revitalization; and the Northwest Pilot Project, which was awarded $130,000 in support of a pilot project that will provide permanent rent assistance to prevent the displacement of African-American seniors from inner Portland neighborhoods.
Additional grants awarded by the trust include $25,000 to the Greater Douglas United Way in Roseburg to support a temporary fundraising staff increase following a significant community event in Roseburg; $150,000 to the New Venture Fund in Washington, D.C. in support of its Center for Equity and Inclusion; $5,000 to the Nonprofit Association of Oregon in Portland for the 2015 Alliance for Nonprofit Management Conference; and $314,000 to Seattle-based Philanthropy Northwest in support of a mentorship program that prepares professionals from underrepresented communities for careers in the philanthropic sector.
In addition to the grants, the trust announced that it will publically outline its general funding strategies for its new programs in December and that it will provide additional information, including details, application criteria, and timelines early in the new year.
