Miami University Receives $6 Million for Scholarship Program

Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, has announced a $6 million gift from alumni Mike and Anne Gossett Armstrong ('61) to establish the Mike and Anne Armstrong Interactive Media Studies (AIMS) Scholars program.

To be awarded to incoming first-year students majoring in interactive media studies, with preference given to those with demonstrated financial need, the scholarships will be renewable for up to four years. As a student athlete, Mike Armstrong had to leave the university after he lost his scholarship due to injury. He eventually returned to the school and earned a degree in business.

Now retired, Armstrong was chair and director emeritus of Comcast Corporation and a former chair and CEO of AT&T and Hughes Electronics. He has served on Miami's board of trustees, the AIMS advisory board, his class reunion committee, and several other committees. Other significant gifts from the couple include $15 million to establish the Armstrong Student Center and $14.7 million in support of the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies.

"Supporting Miami students in need is one of our priorities," said Armstrong. "We want to give deserving students opportunities to enrich their lives as much as they possibly can from their Miami education."
