The University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism has announced the recipients of this year's USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Program fellowships.

Funded by the Getty Foundation, the nine-year-old program aims to establish a standard of excellence in arts and culture coverage, with a focus on the visual arts and architecture of Los Angeles. For two weeks in November, the fellows will visit private studios, rehearsal rooms, architectural firms, and art schools in Los Angeles and have opportunities to meet renowned artists, arts administrators, and accomplished journalists. Fellows also will work with USC Annenberg's master's program in specialized journalism and share ideas with students who are learning the skills needed to participate in new digital journalism cultures.

This year's fellows are Joerg Haentzschel, a New York City-based writer and editor for the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung; Jennifer Hsu, a video journalist and producer who developed and reports for WNYC's interactive online arts portal; Ryan Pearson, an L.A.-based entertainment producer for Associated Press Television News; Gillian Rennie, a journalism and media studies lecturer at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa; Alissa Walker, a writer and editor who focuses on design and architecture; Wei-Wei Wang, a columnist and reporter for the Taiwan-based ARTCO magazine; and Douglas Wolk, a writer and critic in Portland, Oregon, who covers comics, graphic novels, and pop music.

"These journalists want to drive the global conversation about arts and culture," said Sasha Anawalt, founder and director of the program. "They have the skills, energy, and ideas to spark further change in how people participate in the arts and make them meaningful to their lives. This is our most international fellowship so far."
