Michael and Susan Dell Foundation Awards $4.5 Million to Philadelphia School Partnership

The Philadelphia School Partnership, which seeks to accelerate the pace of education reform in the city by increasing the number of high-performing schools, has announced a three-year, $4.5 million grant from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.

The grant includes $4.3 million in support of the organization's Great Schools Fund and $200,000 for initiatives designed to expand parent access to high-quality schools. To improve access to "good schools" for low-income households, PSP will work with others to develop tools such as GreatPhillSchools.org, which provides parents with information about local schools, and will implement a universal enrollment system citywide, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Established in 2010, PSP has awarded more than $21 million to help place more than ten thousand new students in "great" Philadelphia schools.

"It's significant that a national foundation is making such a substantial grant in Philadelphia," PSP executive director Mark Gleason told the Inquirer. "We see this as a vote of confidence in the citywide focus, led by the mayor and the School Reform Commission, on working collaboratively to ensure there are great schools of all types available to all children."
