Movember Canada awards $3.4 million to address prostate cancer care
Movember Canada has announced 18 grants totaling C$4.9 million ($3.4 million) in support of efforts to address health inequities in prostate cancer care.
One-third of the grants were awarded in Canada, five in the United Kingdom, three in Australia, three in the United States, and one in Ireland to bolster targeted outreach programs and collaborations with healthcare providers, academic institutions, and community-based organizations. Recipients include the University of Alberta, which was awarded C$480,000 ($336,087) to address the inequity of access to new prostate cancer care knowledge focused on Alberta’s Indigenous population, and the Walnut Foundation, which will receive C$200,000 ($140,000) to strengthen health literacy and address the needs of priority populations in Black communities.
“The community partnerships are a key component to enable these projects to idenfity important gaps in cancer outcomes and to inform meaningful interventions and strategies that improve equity,” said Movember global director of prostate cancer health equity Sarah Weller. “These comprehensive efforts will aim to ensure that all people with a prostate have access to essential information, support, and treatment.”
