Multifaceted fundraising strategies proved essential to building lasting, meaningful relationships with donors, an annual report from Classy, which is affiliated with GoFundMe, finds.

The report, The State of Modern Philanthropy 2023: Creating Dynamic Journeys to Maximize Supporter Lifetime Value, focuses on how nonprofits can leverage the latest technologies to create authentic and memorable digital experiences while increasing donor retention. It found that supporters who participate in multiple campaign types are four times more valuable than supporters who participate in a single campaign type. According to the report, 80 percent of individuals using Classy’s platform who give to a peer-to-peer campaign are new donors to the nonprofit, and GoFundMe campaigns shared more than six times in the first few days are three times as likely to raise additional donations. This year’s report found recurring donors to be nine times more valuable than one-time donors, and nearly 29 percent became recurring donors within 90 days of their first gift.

“These actionable insights are more important than ever as nonprofits confront increasing pressures to fund their causes and engage their communities,” said Classy president and GoFundMe chief operating officer Soraya Alexander. “We hope these insights power new ways to create lifelong connections with supporters.”
