Nantucket Cottage Hospital Receives $10 Million Gift

Nantucket Cottage Hospital has announced a $10 million gift from longtime Nantucket residents Bruce and Elisabeth Percelay for a new medical facility.

The matching gift is designed to inspire others to contribute to a capital campaign that will support construction of the new facility as well as housing for hospital personnel, the expansion of programs and services, and the recruitment of staff. Additional housing is critical for the long-term sustainability of the hospital, which is located on a small, high-priced island in the Atlantic thirty miles south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In recognition of the gift, the portion of the hospital that includes inpatient rooms, the emergency department, and the surgical suite will be named the Percelay Pavilion.

Bruce Percelay, a former trustee of the hospital who is heading up the campaign for the new building, is the publisher of N Magazine and a longtime supporter of a wide range of Nantucket nonprofit organizations, including the Nantucket Whaling Museum.

"This enormously generous gift is important on many levels, not the least of which is that it is coming from a family that has been so involved with the hospital on a personal level," said Nantucket Cottage Hospital president and CEO Margot Hartmann. "It is a game-changer for our campaign for the new hospital that will now allow us to also address other critical initiatives like hospital housing, enhanced programming and services, as well as hard-to-recruit clinical staff."
