National Housing Trust (NHT) has announced a $10 million unrestricted grant from Yield Giving, the charitable giving organization founded by Giving Pledge signatory MacKenzie Scott.

The largest gift in the trust’s 37-year history will enable NHT to expand its programs to create and preserve affordable housing across the United States. According to NHT, its recently updated strategic plan, which focuses on advancing housing supply, sustainability, innovation, resident agency, and racial equity, will serve as a framework for how to allocate the unsolicited gift. Since its founding, NHT has helped develop and preserve more than 19,000 affordable housing units in 11 states and the District of Columbia.

“This gift will enable us to inject much-needed resources into the fight to provide safe and sustainable housing to people all over the country as we grapple with a nationwide affordable housing crisis,” said NHT chief executive Priya Jayachandran. “Yield Giving’s gift enables NHT to spend our time creating meaningful change.”
