NBA Foundation awards $20 million in grants

The NBA Foundation has announced grants totaling $20 million to help drive economic opportunity and empowerment in the Black community.

Launched in August 2020 with a 10-year, $300 million commitment from the 30 team governors, the foundation’s most recent round of grantmaking includes 40 new and renewed grants to organizations and programs that support Black youth ages 14 to 24.

The latest recipients include Elevate Orlando, which aims to build life-changing relationships with urban youth and teach them to thrive and contribute in their community by providing educational resources; All Star Code, which works to create economic opportunity by developing a new generation of men of color with the tools they need to succeed in a technological world; and the Center for Teen Empowerment, which creates and implements strategies to address youth violence, educational quality, and mental wellness. Additional recipients include iMentor, Year Up, The Collective Blueprint, Reconcile New Orleans, and New Door Ventures.

“We recognize that we need to have a longstanding relationship with these organizations and we want to be respectful and responsive of that,” said NBA Foundation executive director Greg Taylor. “A couple of ways we look at success is strengthening the organizations that are impacting the lives of the young people and accelerating the outcomes of young people with things such as skill development, internships, full-time employment, and college enrollment.”
