New York Community Trust Announces Nearly $7.2 Million in Grants

The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling nearly $7.2 million to nonprofit organizations in New York City and across the country.

Grants were awarded in support of initiatives in the arts, child abuse and violence prevention, community development, education, the environment, health and human services, housing, and substance abuse recovery. Recipients include the Bridge Fund of New York, which was awarded $850,000 to provide cash and job counseling to families in poor neighborhoods at risk of losing their homes; Hunter College, which will receive $123,000 to integrate financial literacy instruction into social work education and practice at its Silberman School of Social Work; and Sanctuary for Families, which was awarded $75,000 to advocate for and provide legal services to victims of sex trafficking.

The trust also awarded $200,000 to child welfare agency Graham Windham to train caseworkers in a proven child-abuse prevention program; $150,000 to the Fund for the City of New York to expand an alternative-to-incarceration program at the Center for Court Innovation; and $90,000 to the Staten Island Mental Health Society to help youth complete drug addiction treatment and/or avoid addiction.
