New York Community Trust awards $6.3 million in grants

The New York Community Trust (NYCT) has announced $6.3 million in grants to 33 nonprofits working to address urgent needs in New York City. 

The latest grants will support efforts to guide public health officials’ pandemic response, provide legal aid to migrants, and prepare jobseekers for careers in health care, technology, and clean energy. Notable grants include $280,000 to Advocates for Children in support its efforts to encourage the city to monitor the use of pandemic recovery funds earmarked for literacy in public schools and $100,000 to Envision Freedom Fund in support of its reform work, outreach efforts, and training after New York governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the Stop Immigration Bond Abuse Act, which is designed to protect immigrants from exploitation by for-profit bond companies.

“Every day, New York nonprofits are working to improve lives and address the city’s toughest challenges,” said NYCT vice president for grants Shawn Morehead. “Our program team strives to identify innovative, effective organizations and provide them with financial support to better lives in every corner of our city.”
