NFL Charities Awards More Than $1 Million to Player Foundations

NFL Charities, the charitable arm of the National Football League, has announced more than $1 million in grants to support the charitable and community service activities and foundations of both former and current NFL players.

Sixty-four grants ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 — many matching player donations — were awarded this year as part of the annual NFL Player Foundation Grants program. Foundations receiving grants include the Indianapolis-based PeyBack Foundation, created by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning to support programs that provide leadership and growth opportunities for children at risk; Denver-based Judi's House, created by Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Griese to help young people deal with grief; and Big Ed's Band Foundation, established by Baltimore Ravens guard Edwin Mulitalo to help rescue public school music programs targeted for elimination due to budget cuts.

"Our players invest a great deal of their off-the-field time in giving back to people in need," said NFL director of community affairs David Krichavsky. "Hundreds of players go beyond team organized efforts and form foundations that focus on causes that are close to their hearts. With the funding from the NFL Player Foundation Grants Program, players have the opportunity to grow their organizations and continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most."
