Omidyar Network announces additional funding focus area
The Omidyar Network (ON) has announced an expansion of its funding focus to include Building Cultures of Belonging.
As an organization focused on social change, ON aims to pursue several goals in tandem, including a healthy technology system, an economy that works for all, and a society inspired to build belonging and community. The new focus area is the third in the organization’s trio of focus areas, alongside Responsible Technology and Reimagining Capitalism. Over the next 10 years, ON aims to invest in the people and institutions equipping an increasingly diverse society to turn toward one another rather than against each other.
Grantees funded through the new focus area include New Pluralists, which works to brings together funders and field innovators; Welcoming America, which organizes a network of cities and counties working to enshrine their commitment to immigrant belonging; and Liberation Ventures, which serves America’s Black-led racial repair movement and strengthens narratives that uphold its promise for all.
“While we trace our DNA to Silicon Valley and to markets,” said ON senior vice president Michele Jawando, “our newest focus area reconnects to the soul of who we are at Omidyar Network and the why behind it all.”
