Park Foundation Awards $5.9 Million in Grants

The Park Foundation in Ithaca, New York, has announced grants totaling nearly $5.9 million to nonprofit organizations and institutions working in a variety of fields, including media, the environment, higher education, and animal welfare, the Ithaca Journal reports.

Through its Ithaca College - Park Scholars Program, the foundation awarded more than $3.2 million in undergraduate scholarships to members of the Ithaca College class of 2017.The foundation also awarded grants ranging from $3,000 to $90,000 through its Community Needs grants program to a number of organizations in Tompkins County, including Social Ventures, which received $90,000 for its Sustainable Tompkins Neighborhood Mini-grant Program; Finger Lakes Energy Challenge; and the Finger Lakes Climate Fund. Other grant recipients include the town of Ithaca, which was awarded $40,000 in ongoing support for a local sustainability planner; the United Way of Tompkins County, which received $25,000 in support of its Youth and Philanthropy program; and Ithaca College, which was awarded $10,000 in support of its partnership with Frederick Douglass Academy.

In addition, the foundation awarded $154,000 in support of various programs through the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County, including $74,000 to the Gardens for Humanity program; $40,000 to the Healthy Food for All collaborative; and $15,000 to the 4-H Urban Outreach Program, which serves low-income youth and families.
