Peninsula Community Foundation Awards $1 Million to Nineteen Nonprofits

The Peninsula Community Foundation in San Mateo, California, has announced grants totaling $1 million to nineteen local nonprofit agencies providing a broad range of services throughout San Mateo and northern Santa Clara counties.

The grants include $60,000 to Asian American Recovery Services to fund a school-based mentoring program in Daly City that addresses the potentially difficult transition for students matriculating into large regional high schools from smaller middle schools; $90,000 to San Francisco-based CompuMentor to support the development of effective technology solutions for security audit tools that enable nonprofits to protect the sensitive personal data of their clients and avoid computer viruses that reduce productivity; and $80,000 to the Edgewood Center for Children and Families, also in San Francisco, to sustain existing support groups and parenting education for relative-caregiver programs, as well as improve services to Filipino and other Asian and Pacific Islander families.

"We are proud to provide grants to organizations that make such a strong impact on our communities and serve some of the neediest people in our region," said foundation president Sterling Speirn. "The organizations we support create innovative and effective solutions to critical issues such as early childhood language development, teen pregnancy and HIV prevention, substance abuse, and parenting education for relative-caregivers."
