The Rasmuson Foundation has announced DIANE KAPLAN will leave her position as CEO in early 2023. Kaplan, who was the foundation’s first employee, has led the foundation for 26 years. A successor is expected to be picked by the end of the year. During her leadership as president and CEO, the foundation has become the largest philanthropic funder in the state and awards between $25 million and $30 million annually to nonprofits, tribes, local governments, and individual artists.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation has announced the election of MARTHA MINOW as chair of its board of directors. Minow has served on the board since 2012 and will assume her new role in June 2022. Minow is the 300th Anniversary University Professor at Harvard University, where she also serves as director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. From 2009 to 2017, she was the dean of Harvard Law School. 

The Kenneth Rainin Foundation has announced the promotion of LAVERNE MATÍAS to chief of organizational effectiveness. In the newly created position, Matías will oversee the foundation’s strategic planning process, and he will be a strategic advisor to the executive team and CEO and lead initiatives that nurture an atmosphere of trust and belonging. Matías joined the foundation in early 2020 as director, employee experience and culture, bringing two decades of experience leading employee-centric strategies and teams in different industries. 

The Ms. Foundation for Women has announced the promotion of ELLEN LIU to the role of vice president of grantmaking and capacity building. Liu brings more than 15 years of experience in grantmaking, capacity building, policy advocacy, and organizational development in support of social justice organizations both in the United States and internationally. In her new role, Liu will lead the Ms. Foundation’s efforts to strengthen women and girls of color-led organizations and leaders, and advocate for greater funding for women and girls of color-led movement building, organizing, and advocacy work. Liu joined the foundation in January 2011 as a program officer in reproductive health and has worked to advance grantee partners in the reproductive health space. 

Atlantic Fellows for Racial Equity (AFRE) has announced the appointment of SEBABATSO MANOELI-LESAME as AFRE’s new executive director, effective July 1. At AFRE, Manoeli-Lesame has led the flagship fellowship, which helps audacious leaders build more expansive visions and more powerful strategies for achieving racial equity. She also has introduced a new stream of work, the Ideate, Design, Experiment, and Accelerate (IDEA) Space, to foster creative, forward-reaching responses to racial equity challenges and has served as the editor-in-chief of AFRE’s literary magazine on global Blackness, Moya, and as host of AFRE’s podcast Race Beyond Borders. 

GivingTuesday has announced the addition of two new members to its board of directors, JEFFREY L. BRADACH and SARA LOMELIN, bringing the total number of board members to 12. Bradach is the co-founder and former managing partner of the Bridgespan Group, a global nonprofit organization that collaborates with mission-driven leaders, organizations, and philanthropists to break cycles of poverty and dramatically improve the quality of life for those in need. Lomelin is founding CEO of Philanthropy Together, which is working to diversify and democratize philanthropy by creating the infrastructure needed for the giving circle model to flourish in all communities.
