People in the News (1/02/05): Appointments and Promotions

The Columbus Foundation in Columbus, Ohio, has named officers and new members of its board. BILL INGRAM was elected to his second term as chair of the foundation's governing committee, while ANN PIZZUTI, who begins her second term, and ANN ISALY WOLFE were elected as vice chairs. Newly appointed to the board is TANNY CRANE, president and CEO of the Crane Group, who will serve a seven-year term. Also named to a new seven-year term was ARCHIE M. GRIFFIN, president and CEO of the Ohio State University Alumni Association and a two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy.

Eight West Palm Beach residents have been named to advise the new $20 million John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fund at the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties in West Palm Beach, Florida. Named as chair of the advisory board is the Honorable DEBORAH DALE PUCILLO, a county court judge on senior status who has served as the foundation's vice chair for governance since 2001. Committee members named are the Honorable RONALD V. ALVAREZ, a sitting county court judge who has been a member of the foundation's board for twelve years; SCOTT BADESCH, president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Palm Beach County; ELIZABETH DOWDLE, who oversees the fund's sustainable development work both in Florida and nationally and is vice president of the Conservation Fund; DENNIS P. GALLON, president of Palm Beach Community College since 1997; NANCY K. HURD, executive director of the Community Child Care Center of Delray Beach; JUDITH A. MITCHELL, CEO of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts; and ALLYSON DUPREE SMITH, a financial planner and foundation board member since 2000.

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham (AL) has promoted JIM KING to vice president of development. King, previously a development officer, joined the foundation in 2001. He is, in addition, vice president of the Alabama Planned Giving Council and a member of the Birmingham Downtown Rotary Club, the Estate Planning Council of Birmingham, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

The Dallas-based Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation has named MICHELLE D. MONSE as executive director, effective February 1. Monse, an attorney, has held a variety of positions at the Dallas Foundation since 1992. Before that she was assistant vice president and administrator of the Belo Foundation.

In related news, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, in Battle Creek, Michigan, has named SHIRLEY DUNLAP BOWSER as a trustee of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Trust, effective January 1, 2005. Bowser has served on the foundation's board since 1986 and was its chair in 2000 and 2001. A native of southern Ohio, where she and her husband, Cliff, run a small farm management business, she is active in agricultural issues at the community, state, and national level.
