Saint Luke's Foundation Awards Nearly $3.3 Million in Grants

The Cleveland-based Saint Luke's Foundation has announced grants totaling nearly $3.3 million to nine organizations working in the areas of urban health and well-being, community revitalization, and resilient families.

Grants awarded through the first of three funding cycles in 2013 include $1 million to the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland to help build the health and financial stability of low-income parents; $400,000 over two years to the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland for general operating support and leadership development; and $336,803 to the Cleveland Foodbank for the expansion of its Nutritious Food Initiative. Other grant recipients include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland, which was awarded $150,000 in support of its youth development programming, and the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center, which will receive $175,000 to build community capacity in support of the development of healthy families.

"During 2011 and 2012, the foundation reinvented its grantmaking approach in order to provide larger and longer-duration grants that make measurable impacts while also tying grant decisions directly to mission-driven criteria and outcomes in our three strategic program areas," said Denise San Antonio Zeman, president and CEO of the Saint Luke's Foundation. "These first-cycle 2013 grants are reflective of that approach, as well as our commitment to improving health and well-being throughout the communities that our grantees serve."
