The San Antonio Area Foundation has announced scholarships totaling more than $1.4 million to area students.

The scholarships, which are in addition to 271 previously awarded scholarships that will be renewed for the 2013-14 academic year, will support nearly three hundred graduating seniors in the coming school year. The foundation will honor new and previously announced scholarship recipients at a ceremony to be held on June 20 at the Omni San Antonio Hotel.

Since it was established in 1964, the foundation has distributed more than $220 million in scholarships and education grants. The foundation manages funds valued at more than $240 million that have been established by individuals, families, businesses, or other entities in support of the San Antonio community.

"We congratulate these young people for their dedication and hard work that we hope will inspire their neighbors and their brothers and sisters to also reach for academic success," said San Antonio Area Foundation president and CEO Dennis Noll. "It is especially gratifying to know that many of these students will be the first in their family to attend college."
