Sloan Foundation awards 2024 research fellowships
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in New York City has announced the 2024 recipients of its Sloan Research Fellowships.
Awarded annually since 1955, the fellowships support innovative researchers in the fields of chemistry, computer science, earth-system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics with a prize of $75,000, which may be spent over a two-year term on any research-related expense. Candidates are nominated by their fellow scientists, with winners selected by independent panels of senior scholars. The 2024 cohort includes 126 fellows from 51 institutions across the United States and Canada.
According to the foundation, 56 Sloan Fellows have gone on to receive a Nobel Prize in their respective fields, 17 have won the Fields Medal in mathematics, and 22 have won the John Bates Clark Medal in economics, including every medal winner since 2007.
“Sloan Research Fellowships are extraordinarily competitive awards involving the nominations of the most inventive and impactful early-career scientists across the U.S. and Canada,” said Sloan Foundation president Adam F. Falk. “We look forward to seeing how fellows take leading roles shaping the research agenda within their respective fields.”
