Stavros Niarchos Foundation Awards $41.5 Million in Grants
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $41.5 million (€31.6 million) to organizations working in the areas of education, health, the arts, and social welfare.
As part of its three-year commitment to provide an additional $131 million (€100 million) to help address the effects of the prolonged socioeconomic crisis in Greece, the Athens-based foundation awarded grants totaling $22.3 million (€17 million). Grant recipients include the Prolepsis Institute of Preventive Medicine, Environmental and Occupational Health, for a food assistance and nutrition program in public schools; Amaka, for an art therapy program for women prisoners; and University Hospital of Ioannina, for renovations and the purchase of equipment for its neonatal clinic.
In addition, the foundation awarded grants totaling nearly $19.2 million (€14.6 million) to a variety of Greek and international organizations. Recipients include the University of Athens School of Law, the United States Fund for UNICEF, Greek Dances Theater Dora Stratou, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and PEN International.
