Unilever Supports Feeding America’s Hunger Relief Efforts in 2013

Unilever, a multinational conglomerate based in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, has announced 2013 donations totaling more than $1 million in cash and the equivalent of 1.6 million meals in in-kind contributions to Feeding America.

The donation includes $825,000 through the company's cause marketing programs and $225,000 from the Unilever U.S. Foundation in support of the Chicago-based hunger relief organization's national child hunger programs, including Kids Cafe, BackPack, Afterschool Snack, School Pantry, and the Summer Food Service programs. In addition to the cash donations, Unilever employees contributed to the company's second annual food bank drive, in which twenty-nine locations across the United States collected more than 25,000 pounds of food and personal care products. The donations are part of the company's Sustainable Living Plan, a global commitment to help more than a billion people improve their health and well-being.

"With a growing number of American families struggling with food insecurity, it is important that we do our part in the fight against hunger," said Jonathan Atwood, Unilever vice president for sustainable living and corporate communications. "By partnering with organizations like Feeding America, we are able to improve the health and well-being of families across the country that are finding it difficult to make ends meet or are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days."
