University of Miami Receives $3.5 Million to Support Cancer Center

The University of Miami has announced a $3.5 million grant from the Papanicolaou Corps for Cancer Research in support of its Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The center, which was founded in 1992 and treats 3,000 new cancer patients a year, provides comprehensive cancer services and serves as a hub for cancer-related research, diagnosis, and treatment at the university's Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

"Cancer affects everyone in one way or another," said Gloria Berkowitz, president of the Papanicolaou Corps. "Many of our members are cancer survivors, so they know that research is the key. It may not be this year or next, but if history is a guide, the cure will come, and we will hopefully be a large part of it."
