Wolfson Foundation awards grants totaling $17.8 million

The Wolfson Foundation in London has announced grants totaling more than £14 million ($17.8 million) in its latest round of funding.

The foundation awarded more than 70 capital grants across the sectors of science, health, arts, and education across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Recipients include the University of St Andrews, which was awarded £2 million ($2.5 million) for research on green hydrogen technologies with the potential to decarbonize the energy and chemical industries and support the UK’s transition to Net Zero; Manchester Metropolitan University, which will receive £400,000 ($508,832) for new equipment within its biomedical imaging laboratory to bolster research into human movement across the life course; and a total of £1.4 million ($1.78 million) to 21 schools for science, design and technology, computer science, food technology, performing arts and music facilities, including Castell Alun High School in Wales.

Additional recipients include Nexus, which assists people impacted by sexual abuse and abusive relationships, to refurbish its headquarters; Samaritans, which will use the grant to upgrade its national helpline infrastructure; and Tullie museum to create new learning, education, and gallery spaces.
