Boston Foundation
Mission:
To build and sustain a vital, prosperous city and region where justice and opportunity are extended to everyone.
Background:
Founded in 1915, the Boston Foundation is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the United States, with assets of nearly $900 million. Made up of approximately nine hundred separate charitable funds established by donors for the general benefit of the community or for special purposes, the foundation serves as a civic hub, provider of information, convener, and sponsor of special community initiatives.
Outstanding Web Features:
The foundation's recently redesigned Web site features information for donors, professional advisors, and grantseekers. The donor services section includes information on fund planning and a link to Advisor Xpress, a secure Web site that makes it easy for donors and fund advisors to access their contribution history, quarterly status reports, and current market values. The home page also offers quick links to community resources, information about the foundation's funding areas, a multimedia library, and Understanding Boston, a forum for educational events, research, and reports in or about the region.
