Dollar A Day
Mission: To provide users with an easy and convenient means of discovering and supporting innovative, high-impact nonprofits they may not have heard of.
Background: In today's fast-paced world, finding great nonprofits can be difficult. Dollar A Day was started by Kickstarter co-founder and former CEO Perry Chen with friends from the tech industry as a way for people to find and support innovative nonprofits working in the areas of education, health, economic development, arts and culture, human rights, and the environment. Individuals who register on the platform commit, on a monthly basis, to donating $1 a day to a different featured nonprofit selected by the Dollar A Day team based on its ability to address root causes rather than individual symptoms and to create measurable, lasting impact.
Outstanding Web Features: Individuals who register with the Dollar A Day platform agree to automatically donate $1 to a different nonprofit every day. (A $30 fee is charged to their credit card at the beginning of every month.) In return, donors receive a free daily email that showcases the featured nonprofit (and are encouraged to share their emails with others). The platform also provides a calendar that lists the next sixty (at least) featured nonprofits — which may repeat from time to time — as well as the organizations that have been featured over the previous thirty days. Dollar A Day distributes 100 percent of the funds contributed by donors — a total of 686 currently — directly to the featured nonprofits within thirty days. In addition, registered users can nominate a new organization; save their favorite organizations; share a post about a featured nonprofit on Facebook; and/or send out organization-specific tweets via Twitter. The platform also allows individuals to give a monthly (or more) Dollar A Day gift subscription to friends or family members. (Your credit card will be charged upon checkout.)
