Ed in '08
Mission:
To unite all Americans around the task of improving our public schools by elevating the discussion to a national stage and ensuring that Americans engage in a rigorous debate by making school reform a top priority in the 2008 presidential election.
Background:
Ed in '08 is an initiative of Strong American Schools, a Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors project supported by the Eli and Edythe Broad and Bill & Melinda Gates foundations that works to promote sound education policies for all Americans. The campaign does not support or oppose any candidate for public office or take positions on legislation; rather, it has identified three priorities it believes every presidential candidate should address: agreeing on education standards, providing effective teachers in every classroom, and giving students more time and support for learning.
Outstanding Web Features:
The Ed in '08 Web site includes information, photos, and videos about its efforts in Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, and South Carolina; a facts page that includes an interactive map of high school graduation rates in each state; and video and audio of its campaign ads. Visitors to the site can read and comment on Roy's Blog on Schools, written by SAS chairman Roy Romer, and the Voices From the Campaign blog. The site also provides links to the campaign's Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, Think MTV, and YouTube pages. Content on the site is available in both English and Spanish.
