Family Doctor
Mission:
To provide peer-reviewed health information via interactive, high-definition video-on-demand.
Background:
Created by the American Academy of Family Physicians — a national medical organization representing family physicians, residents, and medical students — familydoctor.org is believed to be the only medical association-sponsored Web site that offers vetted healthcare information. Physicians and patient education professionals maintain site content, presenting it in a way that is easy for anyone to understand.
Outstanding Web Features:
The site features videos, in both English and Spanish, drawn from health programming created by AnswersTV, a division of AnswersMedia, AAFP's content partner. Educational games are culled from sister site KidsHealth. In addition, FamilyDoctor provides health articles sorted by category, while Family Health Advocate offers tools and resources to help individuals and families learn about the healthcare system. Visitors to FamilyDoctor also can access a dictionary of medical terms and conditions, a directory of family physicians, health calculators and trackers, a drug information database, and a directory of symptoms and their causes.
