IOM X
Mission:
To give young people the knowledge and tools they need to take a stand against human trafficking and exploitation.
Background:
Produced in partnership with USAID, IOM X is a campaign of the International Organization for Migration that aims to leverage "the power of media, technology and celebrities to inspire young people and their communities to act against human trafficking, and encourage others to do the same." To that end, the campaign produces free videos and community screenings designed to educate viewers on issues related to human trafficking and exploitation. It also has a strong online presence, while its website, IOMX.org, is optimized for learning, storytelling, and social sharing, with the goal of inspiring passive observers to become active online advocates.
Outstanding Web Features:
IOM X works with a range of partners to develop projects that leverage digital technology to combat human trafficking and exploitation. The campaign's website is organized into three main sections: an eLearning module; an "Act" module, complete with tips for travelers and consumers and online safety tips; and a Share module, which includes an X-Kit, a toolkit (in PDF format) that includes facts about human trafficking, questions to consider when thinking about what kind of messages to include in your own anti-trafficking activity, and helpful advice with respect to spreading the word, both online and off. In addition, visitors to the site can participate in the anti-trafficking conversation via social media and/or join the anti-trafficking movement by getting in touch with IOM X, and the site also provides helpline numbers for people willing to assist with suspected or concrete cases of exploitation or human trafficking in Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand or Vietnam.
