Kidz Online

Kidz Online

Mission:
To prepare middle and high school students and teachers to live and work in the information age through innovative peer-to-peer technology training distributed via advanced digital technologies.

Background:
Founded in 1996, Kidz Online (KOL) uses technology to enhance student achievement and accelerate teachers' professional development. The digital video production and distribution organization offers free online content for students in grades 6-12 (although the content can be modified for younger or older students). The Web-based educational videos and resource tools are produced in KOL studios in Los Angeles, Reston, Virginia, and the Center for Innovative Technology in Herndon, Virginia, with the organization able to support up to 26,000 simultaneous broadband video streams.

Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the Web site can register (for free) to download higher quality (600K) video files to their computers, save content to the "My Resources" area, and receive invitations to upcoming KOL Webcasts. KOL content is offered in twelve technology units — from 2D- or 3D- animation to Web page creation — that can be explored through five unique channels offering a variety of formats designed to attract students with diverse skill levels and interests. The site also provides teachers with a tool kit and lesson plans that are searchable by subject, technology unit, or grade.
