LawHelp.org
Mission: To increase access to justice for poor and other vulnerable populations through effective use of technology and facilitating collaborations among nonprofit legal organizations and advocates.
Background:
LawHelp.org was launched in 2001 by Pro Bono Net and partnering public interest and legal aid programs in nearly thirty communities nationwide as a resource for people living on low incomes and the legal organizations that serve them. Through the partnerships, Pro Bono Net leverages the communities' limited resources into database-driven Web sites that help address the gap between the need for crucial legal services and their availability to the poor.
Outstanding Web Features:
The LawHelp homepage links to forty-eight states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and Native Legal Net for referrals and information. For those living in a state not listed, the site also links to the American Bar Association's Consumers' Guide to Legal Help. A page of Hurricane Katrina relief resources links to both general relief resources, and to legal resources and information on nonprofit legal-services providers in states affected by the hurricane.
