Minnesota Compass
Mission:
To help Minnesotans improve their quality of life.
Background:
A project of the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, Minnesota Compass is an online platform that uses social indicators (education levels, workforce development, health, housing, public safety) to measure Minnesotans' quality of life and provide that information in an unbiased format to help residents improve their communities. The success of Twin Cities Compass, a similar project launched in 2008, inspired a group of local funders, working with Wilder Research and local nonprofit and private-sector leaders, to support the statewide effort.
Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the Minnesota Compass site can browse research by topic or region; explore major trends; read articles by foundation staff and researchers; and/or subscribe to the project's virtual library RSS feed. Each topic area includes an Ideas at Work section featuring local and national strategies that have been implemented to improve quality of life in the state. The site also includes a Compass Toolbox that allows visitors to add its content to their own site, presentation, or social networking profile, and links to the project's Facebook page and Twitter feed.
