Social Edge
Mission:
To connect the online community to provoke dialogue that inspires systemic change in the social sector.
Background:
A program of the Skoll Foundation launched in September 2003 and inspired by Jeff Skoll's commitment to connecting people with shared passions, Social Edge is an online community for the social sector. Its goals are to connect social entrepreneurs, their partners, and allies to discuss issues shaping the field; to foster dialogue, mutual respect, and a sense of community; and to promote learning from the successes and failures of others. The foundation works with partners to build the community and advance the social sector; charter partners are Alliance, Ashoka, CompassPoint, the Foundation Incubator, Net Impact, and the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.
Outstanding Features:
The discussion area of the Web site is where the action takes place: the Anything Goes Lounge, the "watercooler" of Social Edge, is where participants post ideas and opinions, or simply socialize; the Social Sector Soapbox features the latest buzz on current events; and Best, Promising, and Disastrous Practices focuses on what works — and what doesn't.
