TechAtlas
Mission:
To help nonprofits map out a customized technology plan that includes step-by-step guides to successful implementation.
Background:
A free online tool to help nonprofits integrate technology more effectively into their organizations, TechAtlas was developed in 2001 by NPower, a network of independent, locally based nonprofits dedicated to putting technology know-how in the hands of nonprofits. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates, James Irvine, SBC, AOL, and Verizon foundations, TechAtlas has recently received additional support from the Gates Foundaiton to adapt the tool into customized versions for specific sectors of nonprofits, such as community technology centers, libraries, and legal service programs. TechAtlas is for nonprofits only, and to date, it has been used by more than 9,400 organizations.
Outstanding Feature:
By setting up a basic account, a nonprofit receives free technology assessment and planning, and a set of inventory and asset management tools called TechSurveyor. TechAtlas tools fall into two categories: technology planning and asset management. Both contain articles, resources, worksheets, and many other features. Tools for assistance providers and others serving multiple organizations are available for a fee.
