The Road to College for Latino Students

The Road to College for Latino Students

Mission:
To reduce or eliminate the education-attainment gap among Latinos and promote their success in postsecondary education.

Background:
Launched in October 2007, the Road to College for Latino Students (Camino a la Universidad) Web site is an interactive version of a report (27 pages, PDF) prepared for the Lumina Foundation for Education. The site provides access to information and research related to the significant gap in Latino educational attainment — and electronically tells the story behind the data. Together, the report and Web site represent the foundation's first step in gathering and presenting research to drive efforts to reduce this gap.

Outstanding Web Features:
A 2008 Webby Award honoree, the Road to College Web site looks a bit like a small, sepia-toned movie screen. Those pressed for time can skip the animation and photography and go straight to the downloadable Power Point-style presentations, but the narrator-driven "slide" presentation is highly navigable and engaging. The site also allows users to provide feedback and comments as a way of fostering dialogue and action.
