WebJunction
Mission: To promote learning for all library staff by providing an open online learning community — a place where public library staff gather to build the knowledge, skills, and support needed to power relevant, vibrant libraries.
Background: Launched by OCLC in 2003 through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, WebJunction is an active online learning network that strengthens libraries by connecting librarians from across North America and beyond to transformational learning opportunities and resources. WebJunction also designs, tests, and scales innovative projects that demonstrate how public libraries make a measurable difference in their communities. Funding partners including the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Outerwall and twenty-three state library agencies, have invested more than $55 million in WebJunction's work, supporting twenty-five forward-thinking initiatives that have benefited thousands of public libraries.
Outstanding Web Features: Visitors to the WebJunction website can access continuing education opportunities including twice-monthly live webinars, more than forty self-paced online courses and nearly two hundred curated webinar archives that span topics such as Customer Service, Funding, Library Management, Marketing & Messaging, Programming, Training & Development, Youth Services. Thanks to support from funding organizations and state libraries, all courses, webinars, and resources from WebJunction programs such as Supercharged Storytimes, Health Happens in Libraries and Geek the Library are available at no charge. Users also can sign up to receive Crossroads, a twice-monthly enewsletter with the latest articles and opportunities for library staff at all levels.
