Barr Foundation announces third-quarter grants totaling $34.5 million
The Boston-based Barr Foundation has announced third-quarter grants totaling $34.5 million in support of community-based organizations advancing transportation and climate justice efforts, literacy and youth leadership development programming, and art and cultural spaces.
In the area of Arts & Creativity, the foundation awarded 19 grants totaling $7.8 million, including a $2 million over two years to the National Arts Strategies for Creative Community Fellows New England, which supports arts and culture leaders through professional development opportunities, coaching, mentorship, and peer exchange. In the area of Climate, the foundation awarded 22 grants totaling $9.6 million, including $420,000 to Springfield No One Leaves (fiscal sponsor Right to the City Alliance, Inc.) in support of efforts to advance transportation and climate justice in the greater Springfield, Massachusetts, community.
Through its Education program, the foundation awarded 32 grants totaling $11.9 million, including $115,000 to the Coalition for Anti-Racism and Equity for its youth fellowship programming designed to empower high school and college students from underrepresented communities of color. And in the area of Sector Effectiveness, the foundation awarded 12 grants totaling $2.5 million toward a broad range of programs and services that meet basic needs, improve quality of life, and strengthen democracy. In addition, through the its Racial Wealth Equity Initiative, the foundation awarded seven grants totaling $2.6 million.
