Bezos awards $174 million in Amazon shares to nonprofits
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has awarded shares of the company valued at $174 million to unnamed nonprofit organizations, Forbes reports.
The information is based on Securities and Exchange Commission filings, which indicated that Bezos transferred 1.9 million shares of Amazon on November 3 and 4 to unnamed nonprofits, his largest donation of Amazon stock this year. According to Forbes, Bezos has given an estimated $2.4 billion in philanthropic contributions over his lifetime.
Bezos’s philanthropic giving tends to be made through gifts of Amazon shares, which the receiving nonprofit is allowed to sell without paying capital gains taxes. He is believed to be the fourth-richest person in the world, with assets totaling an estimated $112.6 billion.
