Arizona

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced the inaugural grants of its Comunidad Grants program, which awarded a total of $132,000 in general operating support. Recipients include Beyond Dreams, Community on Wheels, the Project Bike Club, and Reach for the Stars.

California

The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) has announced the addition of Rolando Cabrera, Mary Claypool, and Robert Cullen to its board of directors. Cabrera is a physician affiliated with Salinas Valley Health Hospital, where he serves on the board of directors, and is the owner and medical director of La Gloria Medical Clinic in Salinas. Claypool is a trustee on the Monterey County Board of Education, Monterey County Civil Rights Commission, and Monterey County Branch NAACP. And Cullen, who owns an insurance agency, served as mayor of King City from 2010 to 2016. In 2013, he helped form the Southern Monterey County Foundation, an affiliate of CFMC.

Connecticut

The Campaign School at Yale University is running a low-cost campaign training class next month, The Day reports. Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, “The Basics” provides an overview on how to run for office, manage a campaign, or become an active participant in the public sphere. The session is designed to encourage women to run for office in southeastern Connecticut. Women currently hold 37.4 percent of seats in the state legislature.

Maine

The Maine Community Foundation has announced that its Rines Thompson Fund awarded $148,000 to 26 Greater Portland nonprofits in 2023. Donors with advised funds awarded an additional two grants totaling $10,000 through the fund, which supports community-based organizations that contribute to the vibrancy of the region. The latest recipients include Portland Ovations, Saltwater Classroom, and YMCA of Southern Maine.

New Mexico

The Los Alamos Community Foundation has announced the appointment of Liz Martineau as executive director, effective April 1. A longtime educator and nonprofit official and volunteer, Martineau has managed education programs at the Bradbury Science Museum, served as executive director of the historical society, and managed the Los Alamos Ambassador Program.

Ohio

The Youngstown Foundation has announced $1.2 million in grants. Recipients include the ACLD School and Learning Center, Adaptive Sports Ohio, Clothed in Strength, Vision to Learn, and Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.

The Columbus Foundation has announced its “five nonprofits to watch,” which recognize groups working to strengthen and improve the community. The recipients are Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio, Franklinton Farms, Mansion Day School, Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio, and We Amplify Voices. Each nonprofit will be awarded a $20,000 unrestricted grant from the foundation and receive a year-long consulting engagement with UpRys, a local strategy consulting and project-based delivery firm, to help address growth, capacity building, and sustainability.

West Virginia

The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation has announced that its Lewis County affiliate, the Lewis County Community Foundation (LCCF), will host an informal anniversary celebration at Lambert’s Winery on March 28. The event will enable community members to meet the LCCF board, celebrate the foundation’s work, hear from recent grantees, and discuss community needs.

Wisconsin

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $75,000 to 64 local educators in recognition of innovative programs and projects in the classroom and after school. Through the foundation’s Celebrate Education program, grants were also presented to community members who have a passion for education and leadership. Since 2005, the program has awarded nearly $750,000 to educators in the Oshkosh community.
