Alabama

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced that the Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services is accepting applications for its annual grant cycle. Established in 2010, the fund has provided more than $280,000 in support of animal organizations in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount, and Walker counties. Last year's recipients included Kitty Kat Haven and Rescue, Special Equestrians, Hand in Paw, and the Two by Two Rescue League. The deadline to apply is April 30.

California

The Santa Barbara Foundation has announced that the Creative Communities Project in Santa Barbara County, a multiyear effort funded by the foundation, has entered its third and final phase. To help develop a master art plan for the county, the Creative Communities Task Force is conducting visioning sessions that are open to nonprofits, community leaders, and others with an interest in the cultural fabric of the county. The sessions will be followed by the development of a collaborative plan based on community feedback.

Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced a $300,000 grant in support of a new senior center in East Hartford. The funding will be used to equip a kitchen facility and exercise room for the growing senior population in the community, which is consolidating senior services into a single central location. With a commercial kitchen, the center will be able to prepare multiple meals onsite and provide cooking classes, while the facility's fitness center will provide local seniors with access to low-cost fitness classes in a familiar, supervised setting.

Indiana

The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation, has announced grants totaling more than $1.5 million, including support for forty-one initiatives related to transportation access, healthy youth, education, arts and culture, and affordable housing. Recipients include Big Green, the Felege Hiywot Center, Exodus Refugee Immigration, and Indiana Legal Services.

Massachusetts

The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced that the TFC Financial Charitable Foundation, which CCF advises, has awarded grants to the Cambridge Housing Authority’s Work Force Program and uAspire, which are working to advance social equity through workforce development and college prep classes.

The Cape Cod Foundation has announced that its Falmouth Fund has awarded grants totaling $100,000 to thirty-one organizations. Grant recipients include the Woods Hole Research Center, the Buzzards Bay Coalition, Highfield Hall and Gardens, and the GroundTruth Project.

North Carolina

The North Carolina Community Foundation has announced the election of Rodney Earl Martin as chair of its board of directors. Martin is the founding president of the Onslow Caring Communities Foundation, the NCCF affiliate serving his community, and is a past director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Eastern NC and the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Pennsylvania

The Eben Demarest Fund at the Pittsburgh Foundation has named Aldwyth, an 83-year-old South Carolina-based visual artist, as the recipient of its annual award. Established in 1939 by Pittsburgh professor Elizabeth B. Demarest in her father's name, the Eben Demarest Fund award is one of the premier national honors for artists and archeologists. Demarest awardees must have produced significant work in their fields and demonstrate special promise for future achievement. Aldwyth's art ranges from large murals created with found images to assemblage sculptures. The oldest Eben Demarest Fund recipient to date, Aldwyth will receive $20,000 and will use the funds to hire workshop assistants to help her finish a series of collages she has been unable to complete on her own due to difficulties she now experiences when using scissors.

South Carolina

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry in Hilton Head Island has announced grants totaling $112,518 to three local nonprofits. Coastal Discovery Museum will receive $70,000 to develop a conceptual plan for a new facility; the Outside Foundation was awarded $10,280 to expand its oyster shell recycling and bed restoration project; and the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic will receive $32,238 for the purchase of five Dragon Medical Practice transcribers to be used by volunteer physicians and five Dell tablets for volunteer nurses.

Texas

The San Antonio Area Foundation has announced the launch of AlamoPROMISE, an initiative of the Alamo Colleges District that will provide tuition-free education for eligible students in Bexar County seeking an associate degree, certification, or job training. AlamoPROMISE grew out of the national College Promise Campaign, which is committed to funding a college education for eligible students who are on the path to earning a college degree, certificate, and/or credits they can use to transfer to a four-year university. Once enrolled, students will take part in a college transition program, undergo a new student orientation, and be offered a variety of opportunities, including workplace-based learning, financial coaching, academic advising and tutoring, housing assistance, and more.

Vermont

The Vermont Community Foundation has announced that it is collaborating with the High Meadows Fund to launch a new initiative in support of statewide and local efforts designed to improve forest health in the state. To that end, the fund will invest $218,000 over two years and award grants in the first year in support of nine projects designed to foster resilient, adaptable forests. Grant recipients include the American Forest Foundation, the Windham Regional Commission, Women Owning Woodlands, and the Intervale Center.

Virginia

The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region in Fredericksburg has announced spring grants totaling nearly $49,000 from its Duff McDuff Green Jr. Fund. Recipients of grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 include Downtown Greens, the Children's Museum of Richmond, the Fredericksburg Cemetery Company, and the Spotsy Dog Park.
