Community Foundation Update (06/12/2021)

California

The San Diego Foundation has announced that its 4SRanch~Del Sur Community Foundation affiliate has awarded grants totaling $25,000 to three organizations in support of their COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts for local youth. Grant recipients include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Del Norte High School Music Boosters, and the Boys and Girls Club.

The Santa Barbara Foundation has announced that the Santa Barbara County Veterans Collaborative will be launched on June 17 to foster greater communication, build stronger working relationships among public and private veteran-serving organizations, and help improve the wellness of local veterans and their families. Inspired by a 2017 assessment supported by the foundation, the collaborative will work to leverage organizations' strengths in achieving social change and develop strategies that address issues relevant to local veterans.

Illinois

The Community Foundation of Central Illinois has announced a fourth round of grants from the Central Illinois Disaster Recovery Fund totaling $20,000 in support of COVID-19 response efforts. Grant recipients include the Peoria Public Schools Foundation, Peoria Friendship House, Illinois Ability Sports, Braveheart Children's Advocacy Center, and Ask and Ye Shall Receive.

Kansas

The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced two grants totaling $32,900 from its 2021 Fund for Hutchinson grant cycle to the Boys and Girls Club of Hutchinson and the Prairie Independent Living Resource Center. Established in 1990, the Fund for Hutchinson serves as a permanent resource for the changing needs of Reno County.

Maine

Ignite Presque Isle, the nonprofit owner and operator of the Northeastland Hotel, has received a grant of $10,000 from the Maine Community Foundation's Community Building program, 101.9 The Rock reports. The funding will support upgrades to the hotel's facility, including wi-fi; co-workspaces, and a business center.

Massachusetts

The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced the election of Phil Johnson as board chair and Rosemarie Torres Johnson as vice chair of its board and the addition of Tyrone Bellitti and Todd Sperry to the board. Johnson is founder and president of an advertising and marketing firm. Torres Johnson is a community advocate and philanthropist. Bellitti is vice president of the My Brother's Keeper Cambridge Task Force. And Sperry serves as chief marketing officer of the Museum of Science. In addition, the foundation has appointed Geoff O'Connell as its chief financial officer and Adrienne Walker as director of grantmaking and programs.

Minnesota

The Minneapolis Foundation has announced that its Fourth Generation program has awarded grants totaling $80,000 in support of eight local organizations that are working to advance economic justice. Recipients, each of which were awarded $10,000, include the Asian Economic Development Association, Exodus Lending, Build Wealth MN, and United Renters for Justice.

Nebraska

The Omaha Foundation has announced that its Futuro Latino Fund distributed $175,000 to ten local organizations serving the Latinx community. Recipients include Centro Latino of Iowa, MYLPA, LIVE Leadership Camp, and a collaborative oral history project between the Office of Latino and Latin American Studies and the Union Pacific Railroad Museum.

Ohio

The Knox County Foundation in Mount Vernon has announced that it topped $100 million in charitable assets during the first quarter of 2021. In 2014, when its assets were valued at approximately $54 million, the foundation set a goal to reach $100 million in total assets by 2024.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced the appointment of Rasheda Cromwell as its new senior director, community strategies. Prior to joining GCF, she served as a program director at KnowledgeWorks and as the vice president of development at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati.

Tennessee

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced a $1 million commitment from the Frist Foundation toward construction of a new facility for CFMT. The two-story building will house CFMT's operations, with a reception area, conference rooms, and a mix of open and private offices and meeting rooms. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed in late 2022.
