Colorado

The Colorado Gives Foundation (formerly Community First Foundation) in Arvada has announced grants totaling $2 million in support of early learning, healthy food access, and nonprofit support through its Bright Futures, Food Access, and Level Up programs, respectively. The Level Up program awarded its first grants through a partnership with the Schlessman Family Foundation that provides technology, strategy, and training to help organizations be more effective online fundraisers.

Florida

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties in West Palm Beach has announced the appointment of Phyllis M. Gillespie, Gabrielle Raymond McGee, and David Mérot to its board of directors. Gillespie is partner and director of the Medical Malpractice Department at Gary, Williams, Parenti, Watson, Gary & Gillespie, PLLC. McGee has served as chief operating officer at multiple companies and nonprofits. And Mérot is director of the Economic Development Administration (EDA) University Center for Community & Economic Development at the University of Michigan.

Massachusetts

The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $16,000 in support of 18 summer sports programs designed to serve Cambridge youth who face barriers to access. Awarded through the foundation’s Cambridge WINS initiative, the grants will assist nonprofit programs and local coaches and sports enthusiasts offering programs that engage and inspire youth. Recipients include Bridge Basketball, Cambridge Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading, Eastern Mass Kingz, and Scholars Before Athletes.

Michigan

The Midland Area Community Foundation has announced the addition of Grant Murschel and Jeff Provenzano to its board of trustees. Murschel has served in various roles in higher education and municipal government. Provenzano recently assumed the role of vice president of professional services at MyMichigan Health. In addition, the foundation announced new board officers, including Michael Rogers (chair), Bill Garchow (vice chair), Lou Mencia (treasurer) and Ann Holman (secretary).

Minnesota

The Minneapolis Foundation has announced that its West Bank Community Fund awarded $19,000 in one-time capacity-building grants to 10 organizations that provide services to residents in the West Bank neighborhood. The grants will enable organizations to expand and deepen their work in the neighborhood, supporting diverse cultures and improving social connections across cultures and generations. Funds will be used for staff development, wellness, training, planning, technology, and other projects. Recipients include the Brian Coyle Community Center, Korean Service Center, Mixed Blood Theatre, and the West Bank Business Association.

Nebraska

The Omaha Community Foundation has announced that its LGBTQIA2S+ Equality Fund committee awarded $200,000 to 16 organizations serving the needs of the Omaha-area LGBTQIA2S+ community. Established in 2018, the fund cultivates a community that supports, includes, and respects residents who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, or two-spirit, plus additional sexual orientations and gender identities. Recipients include the ACLU of Nebraska, Healing Ribbons, Nebraska AIDS Project, and the Nebraska Writers Collective.

New York

The New York Community Trust has announced 50 grants totaling $8.2 million in support of efforts to improve lives across the city. Among other things, the grants will be used to build the capacity of arts groups and support efforts to teach young New Yorkers to read, advocate for people struggling with addiction, and vaccinate recently arrived migrants. Recipients include Grace Institute of New York, Marquis Studios, the Young People’s Chorus, and the Fund for New Citizens.

Ohio

KeyBank Institutional Advisors and KeyBank Community Development Lending and Investment (CDLI) have announced that they provided $30 million in financing to the Cleveland Foundation for the construction of the 95,000-square-foot Midtown Collaboration Center. KeyBank Institutional Advisors provided a $23.7 million loan to fund construction of the center in Cleveland’s MidTown and Hough neighborhoods, while KeyBank CDLI provided a $6.3 million equity investment in New Market Tax Credits. According to Catherine O’Malley Kearney, KeyBank’s head of institutional advisors, the foundation has] “partnered with us on a loan structure that allows for catalytic capital to develop this land. As trustee of a large pool of Cleveland Foundation assets, we made a loan from a trust held for their benefit. The foundation will pay back the loan to that same trust. Rental income from the building will provide revenue to help repay the loan.”

Washington, D.C.

The Greater Washington Community Foundation has announced that its Health Equity Fund has awarded grants totaling $12.5 million to 14 local nonprofits working on health advocacy, policy, and systems change initiatives. The largest single grant round in the foundation’s 50-year history include support for La Clinica del Pueblo, Emerald Cities Collaborative, the National Reentry Network for Returning Citizens, and the Whitman-Walker Institute.
