Community Foundation Update (07/15/2023)
California
San Diego Foundation, in partnership with the County of San Diego, has announced grants totaling $5,563,500 in support of 43 community-based organizations working to assist residents experiencing food insecurity by supporting localized, sustainable food production and distribution. Recipients include I Love to Glean, Kitchens for Good, Mama’s Kitchen, and Zero Foodprint.
The North Valley Community Foundation in Chico has announced a $1.7 million gift of property from the estate of Donna Murrill, who died last year. Murrill, who had been evacuated twice as a result of the Camp Fire in 2018, directed half the proceeds of her gift to NVCF’s wildfire recovery efforts.
Connecticut
The Connecticut Community Foundation has announced that its Women’s Giving Circle is celebrating its sixth year by awarding nearly $32,500 to local nonprofit organizations that provide health services to women and children. Recipients include Boys and Girls Club of Greater Waterbury, New Milford Hospital, Thy Eagle’s Nest, and Women’s Choice Charitable Association. Since its founding in 2017, the giving circle has awarded a total of $170,087.
The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven (CFGNH) has announced the launch of an $8.7 million grant program and website, e3connector.com (NHE3), for local entrepreneurs and small businesses. CFGNH created the NHE3 grant program as a result of its strategic planning four years ago, which prioritized opportunity and equity. NHE3 plans to award 750 grants averaging $6,000 over the next five years.
Delaware
The Delaware Community Foundation has announced that its Arsht-Cannon Fund has awarded grants totaling $600,000 in support of more than a dozen nonprofits working to expand educational opportunities for the growing Latinx community across the state. Recipients include Literacy Delaware, Read Aloud Delaware, La Esperanza Community Center, and Serviam Media.
Maine
The Maine Community Foundation has named Matt Grondin as its new senior director of communications and marketing. Grondin, who has more than 15 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations, most recently served as director of communications at ecomaine.
North Carolina
The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina has announced grants totaling $400,000 through its Asheville Merchants Fund to eight Buncombe County nonprofits in support of projects designed to strengthen community and stimulate economic growth. Recipients include Black Wall Street AVL, Eblen Charities, Mountain BizWorks, and My Daddy Taught Me That.
Ohio
The MetroHealth System has announced a three-year, $1 million grant from the Cleveland Foundation in support of a pilot program in which MetroHealth, Autism Speaks, and Milestones Autism Resources will partner to build a model of coordinated medical, behavioral, and social transition planning that can be scaled and replicated in other locations. The grant will fund a joint effort between MetroHealth and Autism Speaks to develop a transition clinic that focuses specifically on adolescents with autism spectrum disorder who are moving into adulthood. This will include providing care continuity for physical and mental health, stimulating meaningful opportunities in work and life, and building expertise and capacity for a comprehensive, community-centered transition pathway.
Texas
The San Antonio Area Foundation (SAAF) has announced grants totaling $1.5 million to 51 local nonprofits in its first round of three-year grants. In 2020, SAAF updated its grantmaking process from annual funding to three-year cycles. Recipients include Centro Cultural Aztlan, Hearts Need Art, Aid the Silent, and High Voltage Music.
Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) has announced grants totaling $436,000 in support of 23 nonprofits focused on improving health across North Texas. Funding for the grant cycle was provided by the foundation’s Phoebe & Russel H. Perry Fund, Basil Georges Fund, Fund for the Elderly, Collin County Impact Fund, and discretionary fund. Recipients include AIDS Outreach Center, Fannin Health Clinic, Our Daily Bread, and Texas Native Health.
